Social Responsibility

The social responsibility work of Mater Dei Hospital is defined by actions and projects that benefit the social environment where it is inserted and shows the commitment of the institution for the sake of the community. Among them we can mention:

  • Childbirth classes: these have been given for the past 50 years even before Mater Dei Hospital started its activities by the Gynecology and Obstetrics team and are free of charge. It focus on the changes that occur during pregnancy, and gives directions to parents of how to deal with the needs and  care of the mother and baby. Everyone can attend it as far as they bring one kilo of food that is donated to charity. In 2005  3.6 thousand kilos of food were donated to  children’s homes. In order to increase social assistance, the employees are encouraged to develop volunteer actions in those places, taking entertainment, culture and love to the children;
  • PQV: the Program of  Quality for Life has the objective of guiding the community to prevention in health and call their attention to quality of life. The program consists of lectures and courses about stress, obesity and diabetes. The courses are free of charge and are given at the Study Center in the Hospital;
  • Participation on health fairs and events when  Mater Dei Hospital offers services like: blood pressure, glucose checking, measuring and evaluation of body mass (IMC). Those services are offered free of charge in companies and public places;
  • Incentive and sponsoring of cultural projects like videos, documentaries, books, museum restoration and preservation through the Municipal and Federal Law of Incentive to Culture;
  • The Gynecology and Obstetrics team assists patients in clinics of several churches in the city for free. Around 500 women are assisted yearly;
  • Consolidating its commitment to society and responsibility for its conquests, Mater Dei Hospital published its social  balance sheet in 2005, which was approved by Instituto Brasileiro de Análises Sociais e Econômicas (Economic and Social Analyses Brazilian Institute), a high standard organ  that makes publications on economy, politics and social information democratic. That was a pioneering attitude in Brazil concerning private hospitals.
